Latest news updates: AstraZeneca Covid jab may have helped UK avoid serious illness for longer, says Soriot

About 90 percent of U.S. government workers received a Covid-19 vaccine before the deadline tonight to receive a vaccination from President Joe Biden.

Jeff Zients, co-founder of coronavirus at the White House, said on Monday afternoon the government had done 95 per cent compliance with its requirements and that 90 per cent of 3.5m government workers around the country had already been vaccinated.

At the White House, 99 percent of staff in the President’s Office received the vaccine, Zients revealed. Tracking standards in the Internal Revenue Service, the FBI and Customs and Border Protection hit 98 percent, 99 percent and “approximately 98 percent” respectively.

Biden announced in September that all employees in the direct government should receive the Covid-19 vaccine, and may not be given the opportunity to avoid the need by trying regular testing or wearing a mask. The deadline was set for the night of November 22, but Zients assured that “it is not a rock, it is not an end” and that unskilled workers will be provided with skills or training to improve them.

State statistics followed a request from U.S. health officials on Monday for eligible Americans to receive a vaccine, or shot, for Covid-19 versus the increasing holiday season.

Nearly 92,000 Americans tested Covid-19 daily last week, an increase of 18 percent last week, Rochelle Walensky, chief of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. Last month, the average seven-day average was 72,500 and was down for three months.

Although more than 59 percent of the U.S. population is adequately vaccinated, Walensky said 47m eligible adults and 12m eligible young people remain vaccinated.

About 36m shots of exercise have been provided, according to the latest CDC data, and about 3m people received their extra dose on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Zients said.
